The project partners are

Wildlife Conservation Society – WCS

The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild places worldwide. We do so through science, global conservation, education and the management of the world's largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo. Together these activities change attitudes towards nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in harmony. WCS is committed to this mission because it is essential to the integrity of life on Earth.

National Council for Protected Areas (Consejo Nacional de Areas Protegidas) – CONAP

The National Council for Protected Areas is a public institution, a department of the Presidency of the Republic, which was established in 1989 and its activities are regulated by the Protected Area Law (Legislative Decree 4-89, and its amendments).  It is the highest authority in the management and coordination of the Guatemalan System of Protected Areas (Sistema Guatemalteco de Áreas Protegidas – SIGAP), with jurisdiction across all the country’s territory, coastlines, and airspace.

Center for Environmental and Social Legal Action of Guatemala (Centro de Acción Legal-Ambiental y Social) – CALAS

Calas is a Guatemalan non-profit, civil society organization made up of a diverse group of people that promotes volunteering.  We work through political advocacy to strengthen environmental management, public participation and respect for the collective rights of indigenous peoples related to the environment, for present and future generations.  We contribute to good governance and socio-environmental justice based on principles of equality, fairness, and professional ethics; we operate with respect, solidarity, transparency, and a commitment to sustainable development.

Association of Forest Communities of Petén (Asociación de Comunidades Forestales de Petén) – ACOFOP

We are a community-based association, made up of 23 campesino and indigenous organizations, that through community forestry management ensures the permanence of the natural forests of the Multiple Use Zone of the Maya Biosphere Reserve, in the North of Guatemala.  The primary objective of ACOFOP is to improve the quality of life of forest communities through community forestry management, thus promoting the social, ecological, economic and political sustainability of the Multiple Use Zone of the Maya Biosphere Reserve.

Asociación BALAM

ASOCIACION BALAM, for the conservation of integrated natural and cultural resources, is a Guatemalan non-governmental organization, created in 2002.  The organization’s focus is to promote the conservation of natural and cultural heritage in an integrated way, through the inclusion of civil society in their management, and through strategic alliances that generate economic opportunities for local populations.

Center for Conservation Studies at USAC (Centro de Estudios Conservacionistas de la USAC) – CECON

The Center for Conservation Studies is a part of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala.  Founded in August 1981, in February of 1982 it became attached to the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.  It also forms a part of the National Council for Protected Areas and the Guatemalan System of Protected Areas. Its Center for Data for Conservation is one link in an American network of similar organizations; the Botanical Gardens is similarly connected on a global scale, due to its index seminum.
